As a Christian, I wanted a verse by verse breakdown of Exodus from the Jewish perspective. This book delivered that requirement in an outstanding way. Yes, you can get that in any good Bible Study reference as well but I wanted the Jewish point of view. The bonus and real gem of this book is the way Prager added commentary and writings from both past Biblical experts but also practical application of Biblical truths and values applied to today’s society. His “rational” approach is truly brilliant. How I used this book: I would read one or two chapters of Exodus from my Christian Study Bible (I used John MacArthur’s Study Bible – ESV). I would then read the chapter notes and commentary from that Bible. Next I would read Prager’s Rational Bible Exodus for those same chapter and verses – which includes any commentary and writings. This way I was able to discern some differences between the Christian perspective and the Jewish perspective. The Rational Bible: Exodus really gave me a deeper understanding of the Old Testament, God’s covenant with the Jewish people, history of Israel, and so much more. Couldn’t be more thrilled that I purchased and more importantly devoured this book!
