Description

Why did God save the Jews in Egypt but not the millions of Jews who died in Europe? Was there really an Exodus?  Does Judaism affirm an afterlife?  Does reason? These and many other major questions are answered in Dennis Prager’s The Rational Passover Haggadah.

Dennis Prager’s five-volume The Rational Bible commentary on the Torah, widely considered one of the most important Bible commentaries ever written, was the #1 bestselling nonfiction book in America on the day of its publication—a rare achievement for a Bible commentary. Like The Rational Bible, The Rational Passover Haggadah relies on reason to explain the text.  Therefore, it is as relevant and illuminating to non-Jews as to Jews, to atheists as to believers, and to secular Jews as to religious Jews. One need not attend a Seder to benefit from the many powerful insights offered. It could—and ought to—be read any time of the year. The table of contents lists the great variety of essays and topics for discussion that address some of the most important issues in life.  The nearly two-thousand-year-old Haggadah has inspired millions around the world every year to learn about and relive one of the most famous stories of all time: the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt.

The Rational Passover Haggadah is the Passover guide that will be used for a lifetime.

  1. Question

    Andrew Bromsey

Why doesn’t Dennis narrate the audiobook? This is preventing me from purchasing, why would I want to listen to it if Dennis isn’t narrating. beck, Levin, rush, Rubin all narrate their books and j can’t wait to get them . It breaks my heart that Dennis doesn’t do this. Just wondering why?

Why is the book printed backwards. I returned the first one Amazon sent us thinking that it was misprinted . However, the replacement is identical. Please explain.

      Melinda,

Thanks for your question! This was done intentionally. Typically, Hebrew is read from right to left, rather than the traditional left to right. In the spirit of the book, we did just that.

All Jewish Books (mostly) are from right to left page turning. You’ll get used to it. I have so many Jewish oriented book and Chumashim that when I pick up a “regular” book I open it from the end sometimes.

In the past we have skipped over many of the Passover traditions, so this Haggadah is an excellent resource that explains the significance of all of the traditions for anyone who is learning for the first time, discovering the deeper meaning, or refreshing their memory in order to keep the traditions. I read through the entire Haggadah when preparing to host my first Seder (I purchased the audiobook version as well). He has so much additional content that my future Seders will be able to have a huge variety of discussion topics based on the discussion essays that he included. Additionally, they are beautifully constructed and having them in hardcover was perfect. I got many compliments on my new Haggadahs (I ordered enough for a set).

A review is not honest if you do not include critiques that you have, but the only one that I have is that there is no transliteration of the Hebrew into English lettering for those who want to participate in reciting the Hebrew but dont know how to read it. The Hebrew does have vowels so I found it easy to read for those who can. I focused mostly on the English translation of the Hebrew for my Seder which was also included. Overall, this Haggadah was very well put together and I highly recommend it to anyone. I cannot wait to share them with my future children and have them get passed down through the generations.

*If you are looking for other materials to help you prepare for Passover, I reread his Exodus commentary and listened to his Torah lectures on Exodus. He also has a great YouTube video called “Passover with Dennis Prager.”

Can anyone tell me… does the book include the Hebrew? I am considering buying it but would want to use it at my own passover table, so I need to know if it includes the hebrew texts and prayers. Or just translations? Like the Rational Bible commentary.

  7. Question

    Jathniel Cha

I’m a biological Jew raised in the church, “born again” Christian. I know this can be controversial but…! Does this book even remotely hint explicitly or implicitly at the gospel of Jesus Christ? Is it only meant for Jews who believe in Judaism? Is there anything in there that can be helpful for a Christian or a church body to better understand the Passover, Easter or the Jewish culture and tradition that Christianity emerged from?
